@Keith Thanks for pointing out that really subtle difference! The different checkerspots and crescent I've run into so far seem to be very similar in appearance. I'm going to have to check through all my pics again. @Gerardo & Maria Thanks so much for the nice comments!
I don't think this is a Silvery Checkerspot. Silvery Checkerpots sometimes have a faint row of pale chevrons near the margin of the hindwing, but not the large, distinct chevrons pictured here. A better bet might be Gorgone Checkerspot - C. gorgone.http://bugguide.net/node/view/147115
