Eastern Pondhawk

Erythemis simplicicollis

Description:

A lovely powder blue male with green eyes.

Habitat:

Pondhawks breed in my backyard frogpond, one of the common dragonfly species. I see their larvae cruising around in the pond, much to the detriment of the tadpole population. They'll also lay eggs in the water barrel if I leave the lid off!
