Common Crane

Grus grus

Description:

It was late afternoon.Picture one shows a pair of Common cranes. The plumage is mainly slate grey, with black flight feathers. Has a bunchy, tail. Picture two shows part of the main flock, picture three shows newly arriving individuals still in the sky and picture four shows the birds on the ground as well as those alighting . It was a wonderful sight...just posting one closeup shot of the bird would not have allowed me to share the full experience.

Habitat:

The Little Rann of Kutch...spotted from an open jeep. Dry barren land. Sparse, scrub and thorny vegetation...I have no idea what the birds were foraging.
