Description:

This Black-headed Gull still has some of the black hood of its summer plumage. Seen in the company of another Black-headed Gull in winter plumage on the second shot. The second bird in winter plumage can be seen at http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/124...

Habitat:

The shores of a large Central European lake.

Notes:

In winter Lake Geneva is home to up to 50'000 back headed gulls. In Spring they return to Northern Germany, Poland, Russia and Scandinavia. Previously been placed in the genus Larus as many other gulls.
