Ridgway's Rail

Rallus obsoletus

Description:

Formerly called Clapper Rail as the species were misidentified and renamed Ridgway's Rail. Sometimes called Chicken of the Marsh as they look like chickens when they walk. Most of the time these birds seek refuge in the reeds to hide from predators. Mostly brown patterned with some reddish orange color. Some striping on the flanks.

Habitat:

Mostly found in salty marshes.

Notes:

While high tides force these and other rails out and in danger of being seen by predators, I notice how they freely come out when it's low tide to feed and predators are not expecting them

Thank you. Though I've seen them in the open before and close up, but not so close I had to back up the lens. It kept watching me but at the same time went about its business.
