Yellow Morel

Morchella esculenta

Habitat:

These were in moist soil near a creek bed.

Notes:

Around Cotton woods predominately... We had a abnormally cold and wet spring and struck out on most morel hunts. Odd thing however was that I found about three pounds worth (were still plenty more when I left) right outside the parking lot of the local "hot" spot. They were all in amongst dandelions and grass in dry, sandy soil, under pine trees. Didn't take any pictures of those because I was too concerned with taking what I could before competition took notice. The only reason I stumbled open them was because I gave up on the normal areas where I have found them in the past and decided to go fishing instead. Got skunked with that too and found them on the way back to the car. I couldn't believe my luck!
