Two Anna's and one Rufous (I think) in competition for control of the food source
Urban garden, San Diego, S California
It seems to me that the competition is not just for food, but that he who dominates a secure food source wins the mate.

The scientific name for the Anna's is (Calypte anna), and the scientific name for the Rufous is (Selasphorus rufus). But I am pretty sure that what you think is a Rufous, is really an Allan's (Selasphorus sasin).
A delightful action shot!
