Northern Mockingbird ( One Bird Feeding )

Mimus polyglottos

Description:

A few days ago, I tossed two slices of white bread onto the front lawn, so I could feed the birds, during the wintertime. I opened the front door, and I tossed these two slices of white bread, onto the front lawn, using my right hand. The two slices of bread, landed about fifthteen feet from the front door. Yesterday ( Saturday ), at 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon, my Grandson yelled out loud to me. Grandpa! Grandpa! There is a bird outside, eating the bread. I quickly grabbed my camera, and I walked rapidly to the front door. I then looked outside the left front window, and I saw a gray bird, eating from the left slice of bread. After about a minute, this gray bird, walked over to the right, and then started to eat from the right slice of bread. After about a minute, this gray bird, walked across the green grass, across the concrete sidewalk, and then disappeared into the green bushes. During this time, my Grandson and I, both had the opportunity, to take a lot of photos, of this gray bird, eating from both slices of white bread. I was looking out of the left front window, and my Grandson, was looking out of right front window.

Habitat:

One gray bird, was eating from two slices of white bread, that I tossed onto the front lawn. The Northern Mockingbird, is found in open areas and forest edges, but forages on grassy lands.

Notes:

Thank you, Hema Shah, for letting me know, what is good, and what is not good, to feed to the birds, during the wintertime. I will not, feed bread to the birds anymore. Thank you....

that indeed is very kind of you to feed the birds in the winter.I wonder though if bread is a good food for any wild life at all.It has a tendency to stick in the throat and cause infections.I usually wash and soak lentils and then toss them out.Currently the winter bird population here is blackeyed juncos.

Looks like either a mockingbird or a catbird
