Great Cormorant

Phalacrocorax carbo

Notes:

The Great Cormorant is the most widely distributed of all the cormorants, breeding in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. In North America, however, it is restricted to just the Atlantic Coast, breeding in only a few colonies from Maine to Greenland. (Cornell) Great Cormorants come down from the north only in the winter months to the New England coast.

Thanks Bill. They fly up the river and sometimes come right over my head. Otherwise the ones on the rocks at the ocean are hard to approach.

Great shot! I always have a hard time getting close enough to these.
