Ariocarpus fissuratus
Grows flat on the ground and resembles a star.
Desert flats at Black Gap WMA.
I was told this is earth star cactus, and couldn't find a match with that on Google. The genus I have listed is of ground-growing cacti in North America. The best I could do for now, would love more help with the ID!

Project Noah Fact of the Day: The desert is a very harsh environment where water is at a premium. But some plants have adapted to that environment and are experts at conserving water. This small Earth star cactus grows close to the ground and does not leaves that can be blown around and lose precious water. It is native to northern Mexico and Texas in the United States.
