Millipede

Description:

Red-brown Millipede of about 3 cm in length with flattened tergites and a dark band down the center of the body. Millipedes are interesting in that the first segment has no legs at all and the 2nd and 3rd segments have only 1 leg on each side. All the rest have the 2 legs per segment per side. It is easy to see on this specimen.

Habitat:

At night, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
