Falco sparverius
American Kestrels males have slate-blue wings. Females have reddish brown wings. They are easily identified by the black vertical lines on the sides of their faces. Their backs are a rusty color and the breast has a black dot pattern. They have long square tipped tails with a black band. They often pump their tails when perched. They are about the size of mourning doves.
