A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
miasciurus hudsonicus
A cone has been stored by a squirrel inside the bark of a tree. Evidence of squirrel in the following pictures. In midsummer they spend much of their time cutting cones from trees and carrying them to the caches near a long, under a tree, tree bark, or in a burrow. The seeds in the cones will serve as food during the next winter.

Hi Doreen! Yes, use the scientific name for the red squirrel. Once you've been on the mission page and clicked on the button to join the mission, you still need to add the spotting to the mission. To do this, click on Edit this spotting. The mission will now be available on your mission menu on the right hand side. Tick the mission, and save changes.
Ignore the last comment. I went back in and was able to add this mission. thanks. Doreen
Daniele,
When I click on the join mission it takes me to another page that says it does not exist. Any idea how to fix the link?
Thanks. I had no idea how to add this, but liked it. Wonderful, so I should use the scientific name of the red squirrel? I shall do so and maybe add an image of the squirrel too.
Hi doreen! Interesting and well documented series! We have a mission called Signs of Wildlife for which this spotting is perfect. As these are signs of squirrel activity I have relocated the spotting to the Mammals category as per our rules. Also, please keep the scientific name field for binomial scientific names only. Thanks!
