Snapping Turtle

Chelydra serpentina

Description:

Large, freshwater turtles. They have a less full carapice and plastron because they have beak-like jaws able to snap, but are also fast swimming and oftentimes try to avoid disturbances.

Habitat:

Throughout most of the US into parts of Canada.

Notes:

We wanted to move this guy off the road, or we would not have picked him up. But the highway is no place for a turtle!
