Red-Tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

While visiting The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens, we noticed a hawk, which I believe to be a Red-Tailed Hawk, perched above one of the Zoo's bird enclosures. The hawk made periodic attempts to get through the chicken-wire top of the cage, but without success. It was perched in some thick trees above the cage, and I was not able to get a photo of the whole bird...and the attached was the best I could do.

Habitat:

The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens is in Palm Desert. We have spotted several Red-Tail Hawks in the area, and adjacent desert.
