Tricholomopsis rutilans

Description:

Spectacular large thick stemmed yellow to gold mushrooms all layered with red to dark red fibrils in various densities. 270mm wide at the top, 190mm tall. Gills dense and a deep golden colour. Furry to the touch.

Habitat:

On a highway division densely planted with Australian native trees and shrubs but also containing many weedy Pinus radiata.

Notes:

An introduced species in this country. Usually associated with pine overseas.
