Description:

Male and female birds alike - distinctive black, white and grey plumage and black legs. Males ahve longer wing spurs than females

Habitat:

Short grasslands, sports fields, wet pastures, mudflats, inland water systems and estuaries. Uncommon along the coast. Food: aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates e.g. molluscs, crustaceans, worms and insects. Sometimes forages on water edge by foot-trembling.
