Duttaphrynus (Bufo) melanostictus

Description:

Provisionally, this is a toadlet (juvenile) spectacled toad, an invasive but now common species here in (this part of) Papua. (New Guinea is known for its frog fauna, but native toads don't exist here [?]). Here is an image of a juvenile toad from India http://www.markoshea.info/images/oba3-1p... (From the 3rd reference link). See an adult here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/689...

Habitat:

Spotted on dry sandy ground in a large semi-urban yard & garden not far from a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest. This is the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

Missing its left "hand" 1st photo).

Careful there Scott, you don't want it to regurgitate insects out.
By the way, that is a interesting mission you are joining :-D
