A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Apis mellifera Linnaeus
The worker honeybee is a shade of brown, black, and intermixed with a yellow color. They usually have branched and dense hairs on the abdomen which has a modified ovipositor that is used for stinging. Honeybees also have hairy heads which make their their large compounded eyes seem round with hair.
Honeybees have long been domesticated and occupy every continent besides Antarctica. They are primarily found in the West. Honeybees get their main source of food from flowers. In cooler climates the honeybee must build a hive site big enough for honey storage for winter time. I specifically located the picture of my honeybee in Leesburg, Florida outside of my Aunt and Uncle's home. According to the US Forest Services facts, honeybees usually pollinate on brightly colored flowers, full of nectar, are open in daytime, and are sweetly aromatic.
The honeybee are the most common bees that humans see. The workerbees are specifically females and they build, protect, and nurture the hive.

Wow! You actually found a honeybee!! That's awesome. Those poor worker bees. They don't have much left in their lives to accomplish at that point. I took the intro Ento class with Espelie last semester! If you have free time you should definitely take it!
I can't see the bee. Honeybees are so small.
Where did you find this guy?
That is a very pretty flower that the bee has found! I wonder what kind it is??
how much honey can a honeybee produce a day?
