Vireo gilvus swainsoni
I must have taken dozens of pictures of this little vireo building its nest. Materials seem to be lichen, paper, threads, feathers and other unidentified objects. A very memorable spotting. This is beside Lightning Lake, in Manning Park where the snow has just recently melted so it is like spring there even though summer here. He/she (sexes identical) would bring material and after placing it, get in the partially built nest and use its feet and wings to form the proper shape. A real professional nest builder here!

Thanks, it was so satisfying to watch the building process.
sweet little nest!
Beautiful! Very nice series!
I moved the last picture to the front. I am looking forward to return trip to Mannning Park to check on this nest! Hopefully there are some young to find nearby...
Thanks, Maria. I like that one too. Notice the bit of nest material in his beak in that last one. Also it looks like he is checking out if I am still there, but he was really ignoring me most of the time! I am a fair distance away with a telephoto lens so that I do not draw attention to the nest.
Lovely series - your patient watching paid off! I especially like the last photo!
Great spotting birdlady6000!
Thanks Sachin and Emma! and all the while he was building the nest, he was singing away. I wished he would quit drawing so much attention to himself as there are so many corvids in the area, that might be watching for a nest to plunder!
Lovely spotting, Beautiful pics,
