Description:

It has a 12 centimetres (4.7 in) wingspan, and is found in urban areas, forests and woodlands. :) i'am a ignorant about mooths and pupaes :) from what i read we dont have those two,only in lab research,i saw many links that talk about the use of manduca's species to lab research in Portugal and all over the world,the link you gave me talk about that i think,after i gone to google to search for a portuguese or european tomato\tabaco horn worm and nothing on europe only in americas and i think in extrem orient (not 100% sure),then searching by cientific family's and by the genus i found it i think :) it's, to average person,exactely the same,the only reason i was sarching more was because the range habitat of Manduca specieswas not coincident,your id was crucial to the id,from there i began :)thanks a lot you have maked a great research for me,thanks very much Emma

My ID is also that of a Hawk Moth.
You are more familiar with the Hawk moth species in Braga.You are probably correct.DO you have tomato hornworm or tobacco horn worm?

If the color is darker, it could also mean that the pupa is dead. Just be patient and continue observing. Your patience could give you so much satisfaction when it emerges.

Se a cor é mais escura, pode também significar que a pupa está morto. Basta ter paciência e continuar observando. Sua paciência poderia dar-lhe tanta satisfação quando emerge.

Emma,in the process of id changes i resarch a bit and from what i read in the wipedia links, the pupae is from another mooth,the one you suggest me lived only in americas,this one is from Palearctic ecozone,the pupae's are to my eyes exactly the same,only the colour of minr is darker but the shape is the same,what you think?

É um pupa borboleta prestes a se transformar em uma borboleta. Observá-lo até que ele sai. Você tem fotos muito bonitas de se saindo.

my wife find it in our back yard,to me it look like a stage of a insect ,if it was find in Porto it could be a marine organism ,but braga is 40km far from atlantic ocean :)
