Arachnura melanura
A small spider of size around 1-1.5 cms found in my backyard.. At first sight it dint look like a spider at all..! It camouflages itself by mimicking dead leaves and twigs to get protection from its predators.
small shrubs and plants..It ranges from India to Japan to Sulawesi
Yes willie.. These spiders just weave a a web and sit in center of that web as a fallen off dead leaf..! This is a juvenile probably. Look at the reference i have provided for the fully grown spider..:-)
I saw your spotting Dixie. But im unable to find the ID of that spider..:-(
Terrific spot! I really like that you used the camouflage picture as your main choice.
Yes chun.. I saw that too.. But there is a color variation among these two.. Also, the shape and pattern on the abdomen is also different. That makes a big difference i think..!
Welcome.
It does look a lot like Cyclosa too.
As for DigantaGogoi's similar spotting, I have also sent an ID suggestion.
His spotting is a Cyclosa spider.
Yes Chun.. Your ID is perfect i think.. Probably this may be a juvenile and when it grows bigger, its tail grows longer and its front legs become dark brown in color..:-) Thank you very much for the ID..:):)
Looks more like Arachnura higginsi except that it is not found in India.
So Arachnura melanura will be the best ID then.
Maybe it's tail grows longer as it matures.
Yes Atul.. I was amazed after seein this..! This is almost similar to DigantaGogoi's spotting.. Take a look-http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/10771579
