Cymbopogon citratus
This perennial varies in color according to environmental conditions, but is usually some shade of green, from very light green to quite dark. It grows in clumps and is propagated by dividing and replanting the roots. The blades will grow to 1-2 meters long and up to 2.5 cm wide in mature plants.
Although native to South Asia and central Africa, it has been introduced into many tropical areas including where this one was located: the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.
Just a few blades boiled in water makes a great lemon tasting drink. It is also used medicinally throughout its range.
