Hi Sharon, as this photo isn't very detailed please can you describe this for us in the description box. The size would be useful for instance. If this measures between 1/2 & 3/4" long with a kind of "zipper" looking line in the center, my guess would be that this is a mantis ootheca or eggpod http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ootheca
