Common darter

Sympetrum striolatum

Description:

This darter is some 4 to 5 cm in length, and shows globally red appearance, with black lines underneath the abdomen and blackish dots on last two segments of abdomen. It is difficult to be absolutely certain about the species ID, as Sympetrum species are quite lookalike - but it seems that a rather yellow-brownish panels on thorax points more toward Common than Ruddy darter...

Habitat:

Shores and shallow waters of a lake in vicinity of Jura Mountain range.
