Spatula clypeata
Presented here is a breeding drake, unmistakable with its iridescent green head and spatulated bill. Medium sized duck, some 50cm in length, with white breast and flanks, and chestnut-coloured belly.
A lone male seen in a large flock of waterfowl (over 50 mallards, some coots, and few hybrids), in a small recreational artificial lake, just in between Jura range and Geneva lake.
Seen during the Wetlands Bird Count 2019. Considered rare apparition in our region, still I see them every winter.
