Description:

I think most (or all?) puffballs are edible but you have to be certain it's not a young Amanita species (these can be deadly)

Notes:

This one was growing on it's own in short grass on heathland sort of area... There were waxcaps about and what I thought could be a psilocybe species just to give you an idea of what the habitat was like). It seemed fairly exposed

many puffballs (not all) are edible when young
take a look for/through the famililies: calvatia or vascellum
