Beetle

Description:

Small black beetle

Habitat:

Pine forest

Notes:

This little beetle rolled this object all the way across a 6-ft rug on the ground in front of our trailer. It walked backward, pushing with it's hind legs, then when it reached the end of the rug, it buried the object in the dirt. It appeared to bury itself also, but I had to quit watching & fix dinner, so I don't know if it ever came out. There is a short video, but the site won't let me upload it. You can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fodforyf7...

That is a piece of feces the beetle is rolling around. Dung beetles are pretty much the only member of Coleoptera to do so.
