A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
My mom got this tarantula from a neighbor who had killed it and was trying to get it away from her house. We're a family of scientists and poking at potentially deadly things is just something we like to do (I'm sure the neighbor was a little weirded out that mom wanted to keep it). Its abdomen was completely crushed and it lost a few limbs, but its otherwise okay. Pictured is the top side, eyes (6 or 8, we couldn't tell), fangs (about half an inch long, or a centimeter and a quarter), black ridges below the fangs, and its toe pads.
Pictures taken with an iPhone 5.
