Pronghorn

Antilocapra americana

Description:

Native to North America, Often called the Pronghorn Antelope, it isn't a true antelope. Both male and female are horned and the horns are composed of a flat blade of bone that is covered with a keratin sheath which is grown and shed each year.

Habitat:

They prefer open and expansive terrain, and can be found in the rocky mountain high plains and vast areas of eastern Montana, Wyoming and into the central Provinces of Canada. Herds are found as far west as Eastern Oregon.

Spotted while hiking in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park
