Green June beetle

Cotinis nitida

Description:

This shiny, green and gold, metallic-colored beetle found its way into my work space on the farm. It was flying when I first spotted it and it landed haphazardly near my feet. Very colorful and shiny in the sun!

Habitat:

Hot and humid. Near the great plains, but amidst a slightly wooded area on a farm. Wheat had just been harvested and many of the broad-leafed cash crops were just planted. Cattle were in the vicinity too.

Notes:

It was a hot and humid day (100+ degrees F) and it seemed to be injured or was very low on energy because it didn't resist my attempts to catch it.
