Smooth Sumac

Description:

Flowering Smooth Sumac shrub. Leaves turn bright red in fall. Fruit ripens to deep red.

Habitat:

Spotted at Tamarac along the road side on 400th Ave. Its natural habitat is open prairie.

Notes:

Smooth sumac is not poisonous. The red berries can be crushed into water to make a tart drink.
