Colorado mountain chipmunk

Gordon Dietzman
Gordon Dietzman 8 years ago

I'm thinking this is possibly a Colorado Chipmunk, but it's hard to tell. It could also be a Least Chipmunk. Both live in the area in which this photo was taken. Least Chipmunks are pretty tiny while the Colorado Chipmunk is larger, but their markings are essentially the same. The Colorado Chipmunk lives below 7000' in altitude, but the Least goes from dry lowlands all the way to alpine regions. Based on the photo, I'd say you have a Colorado Chipmunk.
