Taroi or False four-eyed fish

Rhinomugil corsula.

Description:

Elongated body. Half the eye is above water when it swims.

Habitat:

Pond attached to a house. I was told four of these fish had entered the pond when the river (Hoogly) nearby had flooded the area some time back.

Notes:

What caught my eye was that a pair was swimming side by side...initially I thought it was a pair of snakes with their heads raised above water....then, I realized these were fish. Then, the other pair joined the first and they swam around for a while.

Xiaoxuan, Initially I thought so too but see, "There are three known species of Anableps, one from the Pacific coastline of tropical South America, Anableps dowei, and two from the Atlantic coastline, Anableps anableps and Anableps microlepis."Range excludes India. http://brackishfaq.webspace.virginmedia....

But maybe Rhinomugil corsula.
THANK you.
