Gray Rat Snake

Elaphe obsoleta spiloides

Habitat:

"An agile climber, gray rat snakes are at home from the ground to the tree tops in many types of hardwood forest and cypress stands, along tree-lined streams and fields, and even barns and sheds in close proximity to people. Within its range, almost any environment rich in rodents, and vertical escape options, proves a suitable habitat for the gray rat snake." (wikipedia)

Notes:

This snake slithered past my foot yesterday and into a small shrub by my front door. It was about 4' in length. I was on the phone with my friend Jake at the time. When I exclaimed,"A snake!" he replied, "ProjectNOAH, get a picture!" (We took some pics then returned it to nature)

Nice spotting Jake! Thanks for adding it to the Tennessee Snakes Mission. The gray ratsnake has been elevated to species level and all of our North American Elaphe species are now Pantherophis. So the correct current scientific name is Pantherophis spiloides.
