Eastern Velvet Ant

Im not really an insect person but I have always heard them called cow ants. I've also never gotten stung.

...and have a wicked stinger.

It's actually a type of wasp. The females, like this one, are wingless.

Nice spot, Noah. I think you mixed together the two common names. :-) "Cow killer" and "velvet ant."
