Honey fungus

Armillaria spp.

Description:

Large mushrooms about 250mm across and 150mm tall. Cap is evenly domed slightly darker in the centre, golden coloured with minute dark speckles evenly distributed. The margin is thin and wavy. The dome of the cap meant the margin was almost a ground level. The stipe is thin for the size of the cap and is slightly scaly, cream coloured with speckles, has a frill with remains of cortina. Gills shallow, uncrowded, white. Spores possibly yellow as staining shown on gills.

Habitat:

These were in a group of about 10 in short grass, under a few large trees maybe 30 metres tall, both eucalyptus and pinus radiata.
