Saguaro Cactus

Carnegiea gigantea

Description:

These cacti live up to 200 years and reach heights of 50-60 feet! Most don't know that they bloom with white flowers on their tops in the spring. I'll try to photograph them one of these days, but it is difficult as they are so tall.

Habitat:

Sonora Desert

Notes:

Statistics boast that Saguaros only grow in the Sonora Desert. The Sonora blends with the Mohave, so I would expect it to be hard to believe that they stop growing at an imaginary line...but from all my observations, they actually do! Maybe the climate changes, but I haven't seen one north of the Sonora Desert.
