A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Chen caerulescens
A large white goose with black wing tips. The juveniles are slightly smaller and have a gray shading. There is a "blue morph" variant. The body is dark and the head white. The bills have a dark line called a "grinning patch" or "black lips."
This adult pair left the main feeding group and dropped into this pond at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. They watched to see if the others were going to follow. Eventually the others took off for Lake Texoma and these two followed.
