Winter migrant
In breeding season these birds will have a black face mask. But in winter these will be mostly white with grey smudges on head and back of neck. Grey on back of wings and black tips. Black spot behind the eye. Black bill, eyes and reddish orange legs. Very small in size and hard to tell until next to a larger gull. In some of these images you will see only compared to the small Ring-billed Gull. These two species get along well.
These were spotted in short slough off the bay

Thank you again Jemma
these gulls are cute. Lovely set of pics and information is always very useful .
Thank you. I spotted about 60 of them until they got spooked and then about a third of them left.
The lions are only on the hill side of San Leandro, in the Lake Chabot area and that is still pretty rare as they really don't like to have contact with humans unless they run out of food supply.
In the Marina at Martinez and Wild Bird Park you will see many species. I need to get over there too. I spotted my first Common Yellowthroat there.
awesome set of pictures.
BTW .San Leandro is the place to spot Mountain Lions. I am hoping i can make it to the marina in Martinez one of these days.
