Foliose Lichen

Description:

Lichen is a combination of two organisms working together, a fungus and photosynthetic partner, usually an algae. Each gets water and mineral nutrients from the atmosphere, rain and dust. The thallus, or lichen body, is foliose. It looks like leaves.

Habitat:

On a hackberry tree in a bottomland forest at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center.
