Australian Scale insect

Callococcus leptospermi

Description:

Each about 10 to 12 mm wide, these white balls of whipped fluff covered most branches of this Leptospermum bush.

Habitat:

Spotted on a Tea-tree in a nature reserve

Notes:

I think these are soft scales. The white balls might contain eggs. Family: Coccidae

I am glad you think these are scale insects, Martin. I agree there's no information on them - all I see is the fluted Icerya species. these are really interesting..

Why are there no images of these to be found when they are really quite common? I agree they are probably scales but no idea which.
