Large white wading bird with large yellow bill, and in breeding season with contrasting and striking green lores between eyes and bill.
Mainly wades knee-deep in ponds and shallow waters. Often seen motionless before darting its bill in the water to capture small animals such as fish, frogs, crayfish, etc.
