A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Polyphylla decemlineata
Large beetle, about 25 cm long. When I tried to remove it from my hand, it kept hissing. This beetle does not bite. "Brown, body with yellow and white scales each located within a puncture; elytra with broad white stripes; antennal plates very large."
Attracted to the porch light at night after fireworks in residential yard. Their range is the western US, southwest B.C., Canada and northwestern Mexico.
The larvae live in the soil.
