Orange sea cucumber

Cucumaria miniata

Description:

Aka the Red sea cucumber. Cucumaria miniata has orange bushy tentacles it uses to capture detritus and plankton. They strategically wedge their body in a crevice where they can spread their tentacles.

Habitat:

Spotted in a tide pool at Tongue Point.

Notes:

Cucumaria miniata can be found from northern Alaska to northern Mexico.

Thanks for your kind words Neil. Sea cucumbers are really strange. They can attach to a substrate and they can move around as well.

That is the weirdest creature! So it's more like an anemone than a slug, seeing it's fixed to the substrate? Awesome spotting, Brian. You find such amazing things!
