Sub arctic tundra, well drained poor soil. These were found about 250 Km south of the Arctic circle in Tombstone Territorial Park, Yukon, Canada.
I found these on a sunny slope, well drained poor soil, blooming at the same time as Chamerion angustifolia. Leaves are the most amazing velvet, low to the ground ro conserve water and temperature< as these sub arctic flowers have to deal with the environment in ways similar to desert plants. Wikipedia does not list this species, but they do list many other phacelias.
