Surf Scoter

Melanitta perspicillata

Description:

This female is mostly black with two white patches on the face.

Habitat:

At a small pond in a park. It was about 10F out and super cloudy, and she was the only duck out in the pond. Scoters aren't inland birds, but this one is lost and has been here about 1 week, hope she gets back on track soon. Lifer for me!

Thanks guys! It was miserable out, but she made it easy by being the only duck in the pond, the very few others that were present were on the bank hunkered down.

Sweet! Congrats on the find, glad you were able to track this girl down in the extreme cold making it worth the trip. 5 more for the year to make your original goal on sp.!
