Robber Fly

Taracticus octopunctatus

Description:

Small Robber Fly. Fairly dark body with orangish legs. Green eyes, black antennae, thin light stripes on abdomen, dark pattern on thorax. No common name.

Habitat:

Suburban garden. Spotted hunting in the ornamental willow.

Notes:

It's the smallest Robber Fly species I have seen in person. The Long-legged fly (the prey) is a very small fly so you can see just how petite this Robber is. I don't have much more info on this little guy except that they are seen mostly in the eastern USA.
