Chlorophorus annularis
This is Chlorophorus annularis Chevrolat, 1863. Wikipedia explains: "Chlorophorus annularis - the bamboo tiger longicorn, or bamboo borer - is a species of beetle in the family Cerambycidae." It is yellow with very heavy black markings over the Thorax and the Elytra. The head is white with a faded yellow band running from the back to the front between the eyes. This band has some smaller black markings. The ventral view shows white over the thorax and abdomen with some black bands (with a narrow centre stripe of yellow) running from the edge of the Elytron on one side to that of the other side. I rather clumsily write it like that because I have not been able to see this beetle with the Elytra open and the wings outstretched. I assume that these black and yellow bands form belts or rings around the abdomen, but I have no way of knowing.
Spotted on Lablab Bean (Lablab purpureus) behind our house. It was there in the morning and stayed all day until evening. No sign of it on the next morning. I have no idea why it was on this particular plant when it is a Bamboo Borer, other than resting. There are many Bamboos within a 100 metre radius of our house. So I presume that is his true habitat.
I must mention that the heavy black markings on my specimen do not match exactly with the picture shown in Wikipedia. I can't be sure if it is a question of male/female, juvenile/adult etc. or worse, wrong I.D.
