Eastern Newt

Notophthalmus viridescens

Description:

This phase of the Eastern Newt is called a Red Eft due to its coloration. This is the terrestrial intermediate life stage between juvenile and adult, both of which are fully aquatic. The Eastern Newt can live to be 15 years old.

Habitat:

Moist forest floor (either coniferous or deciduous) where they can move from the pool they hatched in to another to become adults.
